Romans 10:14-15

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:14-15 (NIV)

I don’t know about you, but on the surface this text confuses me somewhat. The more I read it, however, the clearer it becomes.

How are people that have never heard of or been exposed to God going to call on him for love and guidance in a time of need? Or know of the salvation that faith and belief bring?

And how are people going to hear the good news if no one is there to tell them?

And how will anyone be there to share the good news unless someone sends them?

All very pertinent questions indeed. But how does this apply to us?

Simply stated, this is precisely how we make a difference in the lives of others.

As Christians, we are all called. To love. To share. To serve.

We are all sent. To share the good news. To make a difference in people’s lives. To walk with our brothers and sisters in need.

And it doesn’t end there. We are expected to act. This is where we show and how we demonstrate our faith. It is a call to action.

Listen to God’s call. Respond to the Holy Spirit’s nudges. Put your faith into action. Make a difference.

You can do this.

Thanks be to God!

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do you find some passages in the Bible confusing and open to interpretation?
  • When you find a clear and concise passage, does it feel refreshing and fill you with the Holy Spirit?
  • How can you put your faith into action?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help us to look to you for the guidance, inspiration, love and hope that we seek. Help us as well to truly appreciate your gifts of love, grace and your Son, Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
