Revelation 5:11-14
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped. Revelation 5:11-14 (NIV)
There is a lot to get your mind around and comprehend in this passage. The more I think about it, however, for me the passage comes down to one word. Worthy.
Clearly Jesus, the Lamb who was slain, is worthy. But what about the rest of us. Are we worthy? And what does that mean exactly?
Jesus is worthy to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise. That goes without saying. But again, what about us?
Through God’s grace we receive forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life. But are we worthy enough to receive such a gift? I hardly think so. But that is the beauty of God’s grace. We receive a wonderful gift that we are not worthy to receive. All because God loves us and wants us to be with Him.
Many of us take such a gift for granted, and still others feel worthy to receive this gift based on their works.
When I find myself on my knees before God as a humble sinner asking His forgiveness for my sins, I do not feel worthy of anything. Sometimes I don’t even feel worthy to be in front of God at all.
But time and time again, however, He reassures me through His love that I am indeed worthy to accept His gift of grace and worthy to confess my sins before Him.
When you find yourself before God asking His forgiveness, I hope that you will feel the same way.
Thanks be to God!
Questions for Reflection:
- How do you feel when you find yourself before God?
- Do you feel worthy to be there and worthy of His love and grace?
- Are there times when you do not feel worthy to be before God?
