1 John 1:5-10

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you:  God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. 1 John 1:5-10 (NLT)

Stains, stains, stains!  As a wife, mother, and grandmother I have seen my fair share of all kinds of stains – grass, blood, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, oil, and on and on. Each one has a specific process for a cleansing removal that I learned from a special bridal shower gift, a Heloise’s Helpful Hints book.

This scripture caused me to stop and think more about my spiritual stains. How much harder is it to cleanse those stains? Then I paused – there is only ONE way to cleanse my sins and Jesus did that for me! He took on all those sins (stains) and died for all on the cross. There isn’t a step-by-step process for each kind of sin to be cleansed, but a one size fits all process of belief, love, and repentance is all He asks. His helpful hints book – The Bible – teaches us how to live, love, worship, and pray. However, Jesus gives us the unmerited gift of grace no matter how “stained” we are.

Thanks be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who cleanses us from all our sins! He is Risen! He is Risen indeed! Hallelujah!

Questions for Reflection:

  • How can I share this Easter message with others I encounter in my daily life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Give me spiritual eyes to see your light. Guide my actions to live and work in your kingdom on earth. Amen
