Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

How often do we hear "Live in the moment" or other reminders that worry is a fruitless pursuit? It's easy to say; difficult to live. We are inundated with the media planting doubts in our minds. We are a fear based society EXCEPT for our beliefs, the greatest of these being our belief in our Savior. Without Him, our hope is diminished and our minds become those little rodents running on their little exercise wheels. Around and around our thoughts go, causing insomnia, anxiety and ulcers. Prayer gives us an out. God can fill our hearts with tranquility if we just take the time to believe and bring our fears to God.

There's a wonderful song that has been playing on KLOVE that speaks to this Bible verse so well that I just have to share it with you. It's called Still Waters by Leanna Crawford.  Take a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW0VJxPqeRc

Questions for Reflection:

  • When you feel like you are walking through difficult times, what faith practices help you to find "still waters"?
  • When you most need God to guard your heart and mind do you have a Bible verse "written on your heart"? Try to find one that speaks to you.

Prayer:

Dear friend and Savior, we are cloaked in anxiety when our world is shaken by the unpredictable and scary. We know that you hear our prayers to find that peace that is promised in this verse. Help us to go to you instead of numbing ourselves with bandaids that only cover the wound and don't heal it. All this we lift to you, knowing that you are here for us. Amen
