Ecclesiastes. 3:1-13

Ecclesiastes is sometimes considered one of the Old Testament  wisdom books. Life can sometimes be difficult and we question God’s plan. These verses remind us to live our lives, to find our purpose in keeping God’s commands, and to experience joy in the life that God has given us.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes. 3:1-13 (NIV)

These verses are a reminder to embrace the season we are in. Life is full of mysteries that we may never fully understand. Things are always changing. Finding joy and purpose in life can come from embracing the present moment and making the most of what we have. Finding joy in the small blessings that come our way is a choice. Instead of constantly striving for the next big thing or dwelling on past regrets, we can choose to focus on the blessings and opportunities that are right in front of us. Trusting in God helps us find peace knowing that everything happens for a reason, that each season is preparing us for what lies ahead. Each season of life has its own purpose and significance in shaping who we are meant to become. Seasons change but God never changes. He will never leave us. He will always be there, walking with us. God says that He has made everything beautiful in its time. That means that He can take even the worst seasons of life and turn them into something more beautiful than we could ever imagine.  Choosing joy and goodness in our daily lives reflects our trust in God's sovereignty and goodness. Our God is incredible!

Questions for Reflection:

  • Does your life sometimes feel scattered and you don’t understand God’s plan?
  • Have you taken time to think and pray about what really matters?

Prayer:

Dear God, Help us to remember that we are never alone. We may not understand your plan or your timing, but help us to walk with you letting your word guide us so that we can find solid direction and live with deeper purpose. Amen
