Psalm 103:6-14

The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.  He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.  The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.  He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.  He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.  For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.  He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.  The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.  For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Psalm 103:6-14 (NLT)

Psalm 103 is believed to have been written by David as his expression of gratitude and praise to God, possibly in the later years of his life. As I am now in the later years of my life, I find David’s words comforting as I remember the life experiences God has brought me through as He did for David. These words also serve as a guide as to how I can and should continue to rely on God in my ups and downs of daily life. In this scripture reading, the words “unfailing love” particularly jumps out at me, because as earthly things around me fail in their quality, God’s love, no matter what, is always there and at its best for me – lifting me up to try to be a better person in His name.

So, when you are feeling less than your best – I recommend picking up your Bible and reading Psalm 103 in its entirety – an unfailing love dose of medicine for your soul!

Questions for Reflection:

  • How can I incorporate praising God, throughout my day, for His blessings?
  • In what ways can I show God’s love to others by my life choices?

Prayer:

Dear God,
Thank you for your unfailing love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness so generously given to me. Help me to share your love with others. Amen
