Exodus 3:11-12

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” He said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” Exodus 3:11-12 (ESV)

This verse is where God is saying to Moses, "It really isn't about you, Moses, it's about ME!"  When Moses, like many of us, doubts his calling, he is reminded that "God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called".

One day I was listening to KLOVE and the female DJ talked about building a community. She said that she decided to buy some pizzas and put up a sign on her front porch inviting her neighbors to stop by after work for free pizza and to meet the neighbors. If you know me, I put the I in introvert but I was inspired. We've lived on our block for over 10 years and have gotten some new neighbors in the last year. I honestly don't even know some of the neighbors who have lived here as long or almost as long as we have. I prayed to be equipped to set up a block party. I asked my new neighbor (who put the e in extrovert) if she would help me. I have had to repeat that prayer every time I knock on a neighbor's door to ask them if they are interested in coming. It's going to be over by the time this devotional goes out so I'm going to be praying almost every day from now until then. I've always said, "Feel the fear and do it anyway". I know that without my faith that God will equip me, I would not have had the courage. Me and Moses. Who would have thought?

By the way, today is our 47th wedding anniversary. Yes, God equipped me for that too!

Questions for Reflection:

  • When you get that nudge from the Holy Spirit to step out of your comfort zone, what will help you to remember Moses and his doubts?
  • If God takes us to it, He will take us through it. Where can you post this to remind yourself that God will equip you?

Prayer:

Dear God, You fill up our broken parts and encourage us to create a better world. You take our hand and walk beside us through the painful and frightening times. Thank you. Help us. Fill us with your amazing grace, help us and remind us, it's not about us, it's about You. Amenn.
