Ephesians 2:8-9

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast". Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

"Grace," undeserved, unearned.....unbelievable.....always there waiting for us, the gift He gives us because of His eternal love. He wants us to do good, He made us in His image to care for the world around us and take good care of each other, but even when we don't, even when we stray, the path back to Him is always open, always offered, always available for us.

"Faith," believe, trust.....believe the unbelievable....all He asks of us is faith, faith in His promises, belief in His love, trust in His enduring love. What should be the easiest thing in the world, but where we often falter and try to count on ourselves instead of Him.

"Boast," a sin, no doubt, but an undeniable part of the human condition. Often we forget where all the good in our lives comes from. We tend to believe that we have accomplished these good and wonderful things through our own labor, by our own will, because of only the things we have done. Yet, He leaves the way open to get back to Him because of His true and enduring love for us.

Questions for Reflection:

  • When I say I believe, do I carry that out in my deepest core self and understand and accept that His grace is what gets me here?
  • What can I do to thank Him for all he has done and continues to do for me every moment?

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank you for your gift of grace. Even when I forget, when I turn away from you, thank you for bringing me back into the fold and caring for me. You are my all in all. Amen
