Galatians 5:13-15

My brothers and sisters, God chose you to be free. BUT do not use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful selves. Instead, serve each other with love. The whole law is made complete in this one command: Love your neighbor the same way you love yourself. If you continue hurting each other and tearing each other apart, be careful, or you will completely destroy each other. Galatians 5:13-15 (ERV)

I have found through the years that when I am showing love to others it really feels good. I have also learned that when I am not so kind to someone and of course they deserve my unkindness it does not feel so good. The third case is when I am kind to someone who maybe did not deserve it, I really feel good because I think I put a smile on God’s face.

I am going to share a story that I try to remember every day:

She said, “Don’t call the doctor, I want to fall asleep peacefully, with your hand in mine.” He told her about the past, how they met and their first kiss. They didn’t cry, they smiled. They didn’t regret anything, they were grateful.
Then she repeated softly, “I love you forever!” He returned her words, gave her a soft kiss on the forehead. She fell asleep peacefully with her hand in his.

Love is what matters because man comes into the world with nothing other than love and leaves the world with nothing other than love. Profession, career, bank account, our goods are just tools, nothing more. Everything stays here. Love, as if there was nothing more important in your life.

I do believe that God has this thing figured out and what I have learned through the years is when I am showing love I feel good and when I am showing anger I feel bad.

Questions for Reflection:

  • How does showing love make you feel?
  • How does being angry make you feel?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Please help us to remember your wisdom especially when it comes to love. Your creation would be so different if we could learn to love our neighbors. Please help us to remember how good it feels when we are showing love to our neighbors. Remind us also that Jesus forgave those who drove nails in him and hung him on the cross. We pray this prayer in Jesus' name. Amen
