Week Seven: God's Presence in the Middle of Us

This week, we see how quickly we can lose our way—and how God continues to meet us with mercy. From the golden calf to the tabernacle, Exodus reminds us that God desires to dwell among us.

And in Philippians, we hear the good news that we are made right and righteous not by what we do but by Christ through faith. And because of this, we can stand firm as a beloved child of God.

Oct. 18 – Worship Service

This Week's Readings: Exodus 32-40; Leviticus 1–7; Philippians 3–4; Hebrews 1–4; Psalms 26, 27

Read, Reflect, and Discuss

This week's discussion centers on Exodus, Philippians, and Hebrews.

As you reflect on these passages, consider:

  1. What are your initial reactions to this week's readings?
  2. What surprised you, challenged you, bothered you, or sounded like good news?
  3. The Israelites turn to a golden calf when they become impatient and afraid. What are we to make of this? What “idols”  do you tend to turn toward when life feels uncertain?
  4. After Israel's failure, God remains merciful and makes a way forward. Where have you experienced God's mercy or the chance to begin again?
  5. Paul encourages us to bring our worries to God in prayer. What is weighing on you right now, and what might it look like to bring it honestly to God?
  6. Hebrews reminds us that Jesus understands our humanity and suffering. How does that shape the way you understand God?
  7. What else stood out to you in these readings?

Going Further

As we continue through Scripture, remember: Faith isn't about getting everything right. It's about trusting a God who keeps meeting us with mercy, walking with us through uncertainty, and choosing to dwell among us.
