Revelation 5:13

Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea and all that is in them, singing, “To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” Revelation 5:13 (NRSVUE)

We are made for praise. According to this passage from Revelation, all of creation proclaims the glory of the Lord. Psalm 19 states that even the sun, the moon, and the stars join into this chorus.

1 The heavens are telling the glory of God,
    and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
    and night to night declares knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
    their voice is not heard;
4 yet their voice goes out through all the earth
    and their words to the end of the world. (NRSVUE)

Revelation is discussing the “end times,” but how about the “today times?” We dance (at least in Sunday School) and sing and pray to honor our God at church on Sunday. But how do I praise God in my daily life?

Here’s an idea, the AAA plan: Acceptance, Attitude, Action

ACCEPT God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit as my life compass. Welcome and embrace God’s Word. Incorporate the biblical lessons from Jesus into my daily life. Listen for the Holy Spirit to guide me when I’m not sure – or even when I think I am.

Maintain an ATTITUDE of love for God and others. Everyone around me is a child of God and should be treated as such. Don’t judge - there’s plenty of that to go around already. Remember WWJD for every situation.

Take ACTION to do God’s work around me. Praising God in word and song - with timbrel (had to look this one up – it’s a tambourine) and harp - is great, but it’s not enough. Serving in my daily life by addressing the needs I see around me is the keystone to this plan.

What’s the point?!!! Recognize the glory around me and praise it through action. When we all join in, we can accomplish great things.

Questions for Reflection:

  • How does God’s creation speak to us?
  • How can we protect His glory?
  • How can we reflect His glory?

Prayer:

Lord, remind me to see and hear and feel the glory all around me that is your creation. Help me to praise your glory with my attitude and actions. Amen.

PraisePrayer
