Hebrews 11:1-3
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Hebrews 11:1-3 (KJV)
The unknown can feel a bit scary. If you’ve ever made an important decision—choosing a school, interviewing with a company, moving to a new city—maybe you can relate. I remember a time recently where I knew my career path of moving into educational leadership, I was ready for this next step and this was how it was going to be….anyone else hear God giggling at me just a bit that I thought I was in charge? After multiple interviews, I found myself losing faith in my plan, my goals, and what I thought I was meant to be. This is where faith stepped in and reminded me it’s not about what I can see but the plan that I cannot see. I often find myself resisting the unknown and hold tight to what thought I could control, but I learned that what will happen will happen and my faith will hold me tight and ready for when it does. Thank goodness for that, as what happened next in my educational journey was nothing shy of a perfect fit.
Faith involves an active pursuit of God—a relationship and a willingness to set aside our agenda to follow God’s lead, even when we can’t see the outcome or know for sure that it will turn out the way we hope. Faith acknowledges that our actions impact the lives of those around us.
Questions for Reflection:
- Remember a time when it seemed that God asked something of you that you didn’t understand. How did you handle that situation? How did your faith grow?
- Have you benefited from someone else taking a step of faith? What did that person do, and how did their actions impact your life?
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for all I am and all that you have allowed me to be. I ask that you continue to open my eyes and my heart to your plan. May I have faith to know that you have a plan for me. Amen.
