John 14:16-17

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17 (NIV)

Sometimes feeling alone can overwhelm us. We are so dependent on those around us and as social animals it can be difficult to find ourselves alone, maybe lonely. I tend to surround myself with busy-ness. I am very blessed with a large family, so being alone or without anything to do never seems to be an issue. But then there is the problem of feeling alone even when you are in the middle of a crowd. Isolation can come in so many different forms. How wonderful to know that we are never really alone. If we can find a way to be still and feel Him with us, in us, all around us, how much more fulfilled we feel, even to the point of being able to help others who may be experiencing loneliness. Just knowing that He sent the Spirit to be with us always is such an amazing gift, undeserved, but willingly given. Praise God!

I think the hardest thing for me is to let go and let God. I am aware of the Spirit around us, with us, in us, but only when I slow down and listen, be aware and tune in to what really is important. Thankfully for me, He is always there, even when I am not paying attention.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Can I feel the Holy Spirit with me in busy times? Can I slow down and be conscious of the Spirit in my life? What can I do to believe, even though I cannot see Him?

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank you for sending the Spirit of Truth to be with me always. Forgive me for the times I forget to slow down and be aware of You in my life. Help me to always be mindful of all the blessings given freely by You, and to share the wonder of You with others. Amen
