Revelation 4
John is summoned through an open door in Heaven into the Spirit, where he sees a central throne with One seated upon it, surrounded by a rainbow. There are so many descriptions here not to be missed but processed. The chapter lifts our eyes from earthly trials to Heaven’s throne, where God reigns in perfect holiness and power. Four living creatures and twenty-four elders (figures of the redeemed) bow down before Him. In an act of surrender and reverence, they place their crowns before the throne, declaring that He alone is worthy, for He created all things.
‘Revelation Song’ is a beautiful reflection of the chapter’s vision of Heavenly worship and God’s holiness and worthiness. Below are verses from this song as the intent behind this writing is that on this day one year ago, we laid to rest our precious Olivia. My eyes, heart and mind are turned to Heaven every day, and I am led to share it in this way.
“Revelation Song”: Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, and Verse 3:
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Holy, holy is He
Sing a new song to Him who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord, God Almighty
Who was and is and is to come
With all creation I sing, praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything and I will adore You
Clothed in rainbows of living color
Flashes of lighting, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
To You, the only wise King
Filled with wonder awestruck wonder at the mention of Your name
Jesus Your Name is power, breath and living water
Such a marvelous mystery
Sweet Olivia—your life was and is living proof of the love that Jesus holds for each of us in a very real and constant way every day. There was not a day that I did not witness the wonder in your bright blue eyes as you strived to learn so many things. Your love is endless and has no limit as only Jesus gave to you. Oh, to know you have now experienced the brilliance and magnificence of the rainbows of living color in your Heavenly home. You rest with Our Everything, and we will adore our King. Until next time, my precious child…Love Mommy
Questions for Reflection:
- How does seeing God on His throne change the way you view your present circumstances?
- If Heaven responds to God with continual worship, what should our response be in the here and now?
- What does experiencing awestruck wonder mean to you, or when have you experienced a moment of awestruck wonder that you know is that of God alone?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, in this sacred season of Lent, lift our eyes to Your throne and fix our hearts on the vision of who You are: holy, majestic, and altogether worthy. You alone are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory, honor, and power, for You created all things and by Your will they exist. We are the sheep of Your pasture, and You are our faithful Shepherd. Stir within us a deep and tangible sense of awe before You. Receive our praise today, whether spoken or sung, and let it rise to You as a fragrant offering. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
