1 Peter 2:9-10

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. 1 Peter 2:9-10 (MSG)

It sounds pretty amazing doesn’t it? Being chosen by God to do his work; to tell others what a difference God has made in your life?

But what if you don’t feel that way? What if you don’t feel chosen? What if you struggle with telling others about your faith? What if you don’t see how you can do God’s work in the world?

I’ve noticed something about our oldest granddaughter. Whenever there is a family event, she can be found spending a moment with a person that is alone. If I’m by myself in the kitchen, she might come in and chat a bit. Sometimes she seeks out the person no one is visiting with, or sometimes she just sits down beside you and touches you on the shoulder. It is a quiet and gentle way of saying that you matter to her. I doubt if she thinks she’s being chosen, but her faithfulness makes people feel loved.

There are so many things that each of us do each week that are faithful. Showing up for work and doing your best. Helping your kids get off to school with as positive an attitude as possible (maybe a miracle on some days

Our family joined Southwood when our oldest son was baptized – 1980! I was a teacher for 10 years before joining the Southwood staff when it was just Pastor Greg, Denise, a church secretary and a custodian. In retirement, Scott and I look forward to spending time with family, doing some walking and bird watching, continuing to visit our friends in Tanzania (if God wishes ☺) and a bit of exploring here and there.
