2 Peter 3:1-13
My husband and I recently traveled to South Dakota for a long weekend getaway. Of course, we took flat Jesus with us. As we visited the Badlands, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, and the Chapel of the Hills – he was with us and we snapped photos with him at each of our stops. We were pleasantly surprised that this process started many conversations about Jesus with all passersby, no matter how long it took. These opportunities made me think of Peter’s words in the above scripture passage.
In 2 Peter 3:1-13, Peter wrote words of hope for growing Christians of his day by reminding them of the words of the apostles and prophets that predicted false teachers, to give reasons for the delay in Christ’s return, and to encourage believers to grow in their faith.
That is just what happened in our conversations as we carried Jesus with us and engaged in conversations with strangers. We all need that opportunity and patience to share about Jesus and His hope-filled return with others around us.
But you must not forget this one, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. 2 Peter 3:8-10 (NLT)

Dear Jesus,
Please guide me in my speech and actions as I encounter others in my life. Give me wisdom from your words and a heart to notice those around me who need hope and encouragement. Amen
