1 Corinthians 1:10
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NIV)
Paul wrote these words to a church that was divided over personalities and preferences. Some claimed allegiance to Paul, others to Apollos, Cephas, or Christ. Their focus had shifted away from the gospel and onto human leaders. Paul reminds them—and us—that our identity is not in who leads us or who teaches us, but in Jesus Christ.
Paul urges believers to be “perfectly united in mind and thought.” Today, society is deeply fractured—politically, culturally, even within churches. Paul calls people back to unity in a shared commitment to Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:10–18 is relevant in today’s world, calling us to step away from division, ego, and worldly wisdom, and return to Christ-centered unity. It reminds us that real power is not found in being right, popular, or impressive, but in the transforming love revealed at the cross.
This is a tall order in our divided world, but in Matthew 19:26, Jesus reminds us with God all things are possible. It is our responsibility to be a peacekeeper. As we travel through a new year, let us walk together in perfect harmony. This is the moment now.
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
Questions for Reflection:
- How can you seek reconciliation and acceptance of those who think differently than you?
- How can your words and actions create peace?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, forgive us when we allow pride and division to take root in our world. Unite us in Your love and keep the message of the cross at the center of all we do.
Help us to speak and act with humility, so that the world may see Your grace in us. Let peace begin with us.
Amen.
