Exodus 4:10-12
Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” Exodus 4:10-12 (NIV)
Have you ever asked yourself, “Am I really qualified to do this?” “Why me?”
Some areas we don’t question our abilities. Am I qualified to eat street tacos…after many many successful attempts I would say yes, yes I am. Am I qualified to work with kids? My college degrees would say so. But am I qualified to lead a professional development? Coach a kids sports team? Write a devotion?
I found myself relating to Moses in our reading as he states, “I have never been eloquent” and Moses I get you. As I sit here and type it is often tough to find the right words and it leaves me saying, am I qualified to do this? But as quickly as I doubted myself I read the last line, “I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” Lord, I pray you continue to guide my words and my ways in all that I feel qualified and unqualified to do.
Question for Reflection:
- What are things that you don’t feel you are “qualified” to do that you feel God is calling you to do?
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for all that you are and all that you have allowed me to be. I pray that you continue to guide me to pursue the things that I feel that I am not qualified to do. Give me the strength and the courage to know that you will guide me to do your will.
