Proverbs 11:24-25
Some give freely yet grow all the richer; others withhold what is due and only suffer want. A generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water. Proverbs 11:24-25 (NRSVUE)
Stuff! I’ve read the organizing & purging tips from the best – Marie Condo, Dana K. White, etc. I’ve explored the idea of minimalism & all of its benefits. I have made a few baby steps, but still have miles to go. Should I donate, sell, toss or maybe all of the above? What if I need that dress for a special occasion or those craft supplies to make something special?
Jenna had always been a saver. Her closet was packed—clothes she hadn’t worn in years, boxes of trinkets, gifts she never used but felt guilty giving away. “Someday,” she’d say. But someday never came.
One Saturday, she felt a nudge. Not from guilt, but from grace. She opened her closet and began sorting. One by one, she let go. A coat went to a shelter. Books to a community center. Jewelry to a friend going through a hard time.
As the space cleared, something shifted inside her. She felt lighter. Freer. Her home was quieter, but her heart was louder—with peace.
A week later, Jenna received a surprise: a neighbor she’d barely spoken to dropped off a homemade pie and a thank-you note. “Your kindness reminded me to do the same,” it read. “I’ve started clearing out my own home—and my heart.”
Jenna smiled. Her closet wasn’t just emptier—it had become a channel of blessing.
Perhaps I can learn from Jenna, too, and let go from a place of grace vs. guilt. These thoughts led me to consider:
- What am I holding on to & why?
- How might releasing something (time, money, stuff) open more space for God?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the wisdom in Your Word that reminds me giving leads to abundance, and refreshing others brings refreshment to my soul. Help me to live with open hands and an open heart. Show me what I need to release—whether it’s clothes in my closet, clutter in my home or burdens in my spirit. May my life be a channel of Your grace, generosity, and peace. Teach me to trust that when I give freely, You will provide more than enough. Amen.
