Psalm 118:24-26

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Save us, we beseech you, o Lord! O Lord, we beseech you, give us success! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord.” Psalm 118:24-26 (NRSVUE)

This verse came to me at just the right time! As I’m writing, the summer season is just setting in and it transported me back to my summer camp days, both as a child and as a college student working as a counselor. Camp is such a special corner of the world where the Holy Spirit moves and every day is wrapped up in the absolute joy of getting to glorify God in everything you do. I remember waking up on so many warm, dewy mornings and sitting down for morning worship. This song was a popular pick to get everyone up and moving and ready to start the day!

Singing the first line of this verse in a joyous little tune was always the perfect manifestation of a great day. There are few other times in my life that I could sing or say something and truly feel that it was the truth and I could make it happen! The nostalgia for that feeling and that time of my life hits the strongest when I hear this verse. It reinvigorates me to want to wake up, put a little pep in my step and have a great day living in the light of the Lord.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What verse helps you to manifest a great day?
  • What is a place that you always wake up happy and ready to glorify the Lord?

Prayer

Dear Lord,
Help us to wake up each morning with a positive mindset, to manifest your greatness in everything that we do. Help us to remember each day is a gift made by you, just for us. Let us rejoice and be glad!
Amen
