Psalm 100
A Psalm of thanksgiving
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him; bless his name. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100 (NRSVUE)
Recently, we were in the little town of Wauneta, Nebraska, and stopped in at the Meadowlark Lane Coffee and Floral. On the wall there was a drawing of a meadowlark and a statement that the meadowlark is the only bird that sings in flight. If you didn’t know already, the Western Meadowlark is Nebraska’s state bird.
When we lived in a more rural area, we could look out our front window and often see one of those beautiful birds in the top of the tree across the road – singing its wonderful song. We didn’t understand what the meadowlarks were singing, but it sounded like they were singing out their joy.
Psalm 100 tells us to make a joyful noise to the Lord - which Southwood’s music staff helps us do each Sunday. Sometimes, many times, those joyful noises we sing on Sunday are carried right out Southwood’s door and into our homes and communities as we go about our week. Thank you, music staff!
It is right that we sing praises to God, give thanks to God, and bless his name for God has done wondrous things for us.

Lord, thank you for meadowlarks! And for all of creation. Thank you for helping us see the beauty of the earth and the beauty of our families, friends, and all other peoples of the world. We know you are with us always and carry us in your heart. Amen.
