Acts 10:34-43
"Then Peter began to speak: 'I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.'" Acts 10:34-35 (NIV)
The Gospel Is for Everyone
Sometimes we unintentionally place people into categories. We may assume certain people are more likely to follow God, deserve grace, or belong in church than others. We tend to connect with people who are similar to us and keep our distance from those who are different. Yet in Acts 10, God challenged Peter's thinking in a powerful way.
Peter had spent his life believing that God's promises were primarily for the Jewish people. But through his encounter with Cornelius, God revealed something much bigger: the message of Jesus was meant for everyone.
As Peter stood before Cornelius and his household, he realized that God's love is not limited by nationality, background, social status, or past mistakes. God does not show favoritism. His invitation is open to all who are willing to receive Him.
Peter then shares the heart of the Gospel. He reminds them that Jesus came bringing peace, healing the sick, helping the hurting, and demonstrating God's love. He was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. Through Him, forgiveness of sins is available to everyone who believes.
What an incredible reminder for us today. No one is beyond God's reach. No one is too broken, too far gone, or too different for His grace. The same Jesus who transformed Peter's life is still transforming lives today.
This passage also challenges us personally. Are there people we've written off? People we've judged too quickly? People we've assumed would never be interested in God? Sometimes the very people we least expect are the ones God is already working in.
God's heart has always been for all people. As followers of Christ, our hearts should reflect His.
Questions for Reflection:
- Are there people in your life you may have unintentionally judged or overlooked?
- How does it encourage you to know that God's grace is available to everyone, including you?
- Who might God be calling you to love, encourage, or share His hope with this week?
Prayer:
God, thank You that Your love is not limited by background, status, or past mistakes. Thank You for sending Jesus so that everyone can have the opportunity to know You and receive forgiveness. Help me see people the way You see them. Remove any judgment or prejudice from my heart and give me the courage to share Your love with those around me. Use my life to point others toward the hope found in Jesus. Amen.
