Psalm 104
Psalm 104 is a joyful song of praise celebrating God as creator, sustainer, and sovereign Lord over all creation. It is one of the 61 anonymous psalms, so we don't know who or where it was written. However, it is believed to be written in the 11th century BC. There are three basic themes to Psalm 104: 1) God the Creator; 2) God the Provider; and 3) Life Depends on God.
1) The psalmist praises the Lord for all of God’s works and creation. God is dressed in light and majesty. He created the world with order, purpose, and set the earth on strong foundations. He made water, mountains, and valleys, and set the rules for the oceans so they cannot flood the land. 2) God sends the rain to make grass grow for the animals and plants for people to eat. He provides homes for the birds and wild animals. He made the moon and the sun to mark the seasons and time. 3) Every animal and person looks to God for food, and gathers in what He provides. God decides when life begins and ends, giving breath to create life and when God takes breath away life ends. The psalm ends with a promise to sing praise to God throughout their lives.

God of all creation, thank you for the world you created with joy for joy. Help us to take the time to recognize and enjoy all your creations each day. May we praise you through prayer and song as long as we live. Amen.
