Psalm 11
I trust in the Lord, so why do you tell me to run and hide? Why do you say, “Fly to the mountain like a bird?” Like hunters the wicked hide in the dark. They get their bows ready and aim their arrows. They shoot at good honest people. What would good people do if the wicked destroyed all that is good? The Lord is in his holy temple. The Lord sits on his throne in heaven. He sees everything that happens. He watches people closely. The Lord examines those who are good and those who are wicked; he hates those who enjoy hurting others. He will make hot coals and burning sulfur fall like rain on the wicked. They will get nothing but a hot, burning wind. The Lord always does what is right, and he loves seeing people doing right. Those who lead good lives will be with him. Psalm 11 (ERV)
I have been very blessed. My parents taught me to always look for the good. I was raised going to church every Sunday. At church I learned to trust in the Lord. I learned along the way that there are plenty of negatives in the world. If I chose to keep negatives in my life it would be easy to live that life. I found that life was much more enjoyable when I was looking for the positives that God placed before me.
One of my memories was getting fired from my job in Waco, Texas in 1996. No income and two kids in college. WHAT NEXT??? It would have been easy to sit and pout but I needed to focus on the next move. I had several opportunities and the one I took seemed at the time difficult to take but I believe God had a plan for me. My brother owned a golf car franchise in Colorado and Nebraska. He was tired of running back and forth and asked if I would help out and run the one in Lincoln, Nebraska. I took the challenge, moved to Lincoln and joined Southwood Lutheran Church. That led to one of the greatest blessings of my life. My spiritual life grew more in the first few years than it had in the previous 52 years of my life.
One of my great memories was a mission trip to Honduras. I was able to learn how blessed I was. The people in the Village we stayed in lived in one room dirt floor houses and brought their chickens in the house at night so they would not be stolen. They were not sure where the next meal would come from and yet they were more content with life than most people in our country. WOW!! What a lesson.
While in Lincoln I saw a church that helped people in Lincoln and throughout the world and grew from 700 people to over 3,000. It showed me that when churches are doing things correctly people want to join. Thanks Southwood, you taught me a lot.
