Year in the Bible Daily Reading:

Exodus 4-6; Galatians 6 Listen to Today's Reading

Galatians 6:7-10

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:7-10 (NIV)

These days, it is easy to become weary. We try and try and try to sow good thoughts, good deeds, good relationships, and yet it feels like we're running into a brick wall. Looking into why we are doing these good things can be an eye opener. Are we really striving to do good for the glory of God? Is there a bit of self-aggrandizement in our intention? If we have pure, sincere reasons, scripture says we will reap eternal life. A beautiful, everlasting goal to strive for!

Giving up is always on the edge of the human condition, (for me anyway). It seems too weighty to keep trying when the world always seems to be heading in what feels like the wrong way. Why not just throw in the towel and ignore problems? It would be easier. It could calm my troubled feelings. Paul says "Let us not become weary...." I think trusting in God and truly believing that He always has our back, that we are never doing this alone, is my best tool to keep going and not be weighed down with doubt and worry.

We have the opportunity to do good many times a day, in some very small and perhaps in some larger ways. Let's try to do good to all people and trust that He is always with us and we will someday reap the best harvest of all.

Question for Reflection:

  • What small deed can I do today to start sowing good in the world one tiny bit at a time?

Prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for our beautiful world and the wonderful people we encounter every day. Let me find ways to help in any small or large deed I can do for others today. Be my guide and my salvation forever. All glory and praise to You, Lord! Amen
