Year in the Bible Daily Reading:
Genesis 47-48; Psalm 25; Galatians 3 Listen to Today's Reading
Galatians 3:26-29
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:26-29 (NIV)
Hmmmmm, so another few verses that seem pretty straightforward - we are all children of God through faith.
In other words, we believe Jesus Christ died for our sins, we are baptized and we’re in.
Have you heard of (or perhaps even seen) the movie, In like Flint? I know I date myself by even referencing this one, but it feels appropriate somehow. To be transparent, I don’t remember the whole premise but basically it was about a spy (Flint) who could do anything. He was very suave and cool, of course. James Bond before James Bond if you will.
The idea was that Flint could do the impossible, get into (and out of) any situation he found himself in. All without so much as breaking a sweat. He was in like Flint.
I imagine the name of our movie would be In Like Christians. It seems a pretty similar theme - we get into and out of situations. We’re suave and cool (okay, maybe not all the time). Unlike the super spies, we don’t rely on gimmicks or tricks, we “just” have faith.
I use air quotes around just because as we all know, faith isn’t always so easy. In theory sure, we get baptized, go to church, repent our sins and voila, faith. But anyone who’s ever been in a difficult time knows faith is not that easy or clear cut.
But the beautiful part of God is we all belong to Christ because of who Christ is and not because of anything we do. We are in like Christians because of Christ alone.
Questions for Reflection:
- Is there a super spy gimmick that could help me in my faith?
- How can I remind myself that I am indeed “In Like Christians”?
- Do I know anyone who needs help remembering they too are “In Like Christians?
Prayer:
Thank you for welcoming me “in” Lord. Help me welcome others in Your name. Amen.
