Care Ministry Coordinator / Receptionist

Reports to: Director of Care Ministry


Job Summary:

To provide administrative support in the area of Care Ministry at Southwood Lutheran Church. This position coordinates the care needs of the congregation through prayer requests, the Giving Tree program, Good Samaritan Fund requests, maintenance of the Care Ministry database, and serving as the receptionist.


Essential Duties:

  1.  Coordinate the congregational prayer chain.
  2. Maintain records tied to the following Care activities:
    1. Weekly prayer/care concerns
    2. Grief resource distribution, such as brochures, cards, letters and bulletins
    3. Care Caller tracking
    4. Database maintenance/tagging
  3. Maintain Care volunteer lists:
    1. Funeral lunch teams
    2. Care Ministry teams
  4. Assist with identification, recruiting and training of Care volunteers, including follow-up regarding new member involvement.
  5. Be the first line of communication with the church, answering phone calls and assisting walk-in guests at the front desk
  6. Oversee Giving Tree program for Southwood families and Thanksgiving meal distribution.
  7. Assist prayer shawl ministry and Good Samaritan Fund request coordination.
  8. Assist with development of Care Ministry materials.
  9. Coordinate materials and room arrangements for Care trainings, meetings, funerals and Healing Prayer services.
  10. Maintain the Prayer Room.
  11. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Committed to an active church membership and prayer life, with a Lutheran background preferred.
  • Demonstrates positivity and commitment to the purpose of Southwood Lutheran Church.
  • Displays excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of members and non-members.
  • Possesses strong computer skills to work with various software platforms and effectively uses database of congregation.
  • Holds passion and commitment to caring for people, with an ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
