Education is a high priority for our partners in Tanzania but access to quality education is a challenge for many families. Education often ends with primary school graduation because of the cost of private secondary school. Private schools have resources like quality teachers and technology to prepare students for success much better than free government schools.
To address this issue and build a better future, the Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania partners with Southwood Lutheran to provide scholarship opportunities in high quality, private secondary schools to young people. This scholarship program assists students and their families in paying for tuition, room & board, uniforms and school supplies.
The partnership employs a program coordinator in Tanzania to manage the administrative duties of the program as well as build relationships with schools, students, families and Southwood. These relationships create a system of support for students that goes beyond financial assistance. Everyone has something to contribute to the success of the student.
You become a scholarship sponsor by donating to the Southwood Tanzania Education Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to assist families and students with tuition, room & board, uniforms and other school fees. The fund also provides feminine health and hygiene supplies and a life skills course for each student graduating Form 4.
A full scholarship is $860 per year, per student. Most students receive a partial scholarship amount that supplements what their family is able to contribute. Because every dollar in the scholarship fund is used to support students, your donation benefits many students.
