Sunday School

What does Sunday School look like?

We offer Sunday School at the 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 AM worship hours for children ages 3 years old through 5th Grade. Children first gather in age-appropriate classrooms at the beginning of each hour, then join other classes for our Large Group experience. In Large Group we sing songs and tell the Bible story in an engaging style. Back in the classroom we focus on connecting the Bible point of the day with interactive crafts, games and lively discussion.

How can my child attend?

Primary registration for the beginning of Fall Sunday School starts at 8:00 AM on the first Saturday of August. Registration is online on our website.

Can my child attend if we are just visiting?

If you are a first-time visitor and would just like to check us out, register here and then arrive a few minutes prior to your Worship Hour at Education Station in the lower level.

What if my child has Special Needs?

We have a dedicated Special Needs Sunday School at the 8:30 AM Worship time. This class is taught by LPS Occupational Therapists who will work with you to make sure your child will receive individualized attention.

What safety precautions are taken while I’m at worship?

You can be assured that safety is a top priority. We take all of the following safety measures:

  • Dedicated wing of the church for classes
  • Safety Team members and staff to monitor the wing
  • Locked doors from the rest of the church
  • Background checks and safety training for all volunteers
  • First Aid certification for all Ministry staff

We have an electronic check-in system that provides a guardian label for children ages 3 through 2nd Grade that will be printed out upon entering the church and must be presented to pick up your child.

What is the procedure to check in my child each Sunday?

First download the Southwood Church App by going to the app store and search for “Church by MinistryOne.” Fill in your zip code and choose Southwood Lutheran Church.

  • Select Check-in (for your first sign in, choose the email you have on file at the church as well as your phone number)
  • You will be sent a Validation Code
  • Go to Check-in again (Sunday School Check-in begins 30 minutes before each session)
  • Select your first child’s name
  • Select the age
  • Repeat for each child
  • A new QR code will appear and that is what you will use for check-in each day.

There will be check-in stations on the lower level of the church by Education Station where you will be able to scan your QR code and then print out a label for your child and a guardian label should your child be ages 3 through 2nd Grade. This guardian label must be shown to pick up your child.

Sunday School Spring Mission Project

Let's Stock the Shelves for the Food Bank of Lincoln!

This Spring we will be collecting food and offerings for our friends at the Food Bank of Lincoln which serves 16 counties in Southeast Nebraska. An estimated 48,000 people are food insecure, including over 13,000 children. This means 1 in 8 children may not have reliable and consistent access to enough food to live active, healthy lives.

Let’s line our lower level shelves with these most needed items:

  • Tuna and other canned meats
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Peanut butter
  • Macaroni and cheese and other boxed dinners
  • Brown rice and long-grain white rice (not instant)
  • 100% fruit juice
  • Low-sugar, whole grain cereals
  • Healthy snacks (granola bars, nuts, dried fruit)

Sunday School Winter Mission Project

Let's Build a Home in Honduras!

This Fall we will be using our Sunday School offerings to help build a home for a family in Honduras.  Many families have several generations as well as some of their animals living under a roof together. The home may have dirt floors and unsafe walls.  By helping Pastor Manolo and his team build a home, we will be a partner in creating a healthier and happier life for the chosen family as well as boosting the local economy.

Goal: $5,000
