Southwood is filled with outdoor enthusiasts, but Mark Mayer’s passion for God’s beautiful creation stands out. He has led more scouting adventures than one can count and mission trips are just part of his life. As Lincoln’s largest green space, Wilderness Park provides a unique opportunity for the public to appreciate the value of a natural area within an urban setting. The City of Lincoln continues to make it more user friendly, accessible, and educational.

Central to the ecology of Wilderness Park is Salt Creek. The creek begins in southern Lancaster County and flows north for 45 miles before emptying into the Platte River. We’ll be watching the film “Salt Valley Greenways: Nature’s Network” a multi-media story exploring the wild spaces along the Salt Creek valley. These wildlife corridors are vital to the success of animal populations, especially in urbanized areas. Protecting these places is important not only for wildlife, but for people as well.
