Colossians 3:12-17

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:12-17 (NIV)

As we navigate relationships and challenges, this passage reminds us to embrace compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience—essential markers of who we are in Christ. Forgiveness, in particular, is a powerful expression of love.

I’ve watched my husband model this beautifully in his life. There have been times when he’s been wronged, yet he chose to forgive and let it go. Seeing him respond with grace and humility has challenged me to do the same. I’ve also experienced the challenge of forgiveness myself. When my parents separated and my father chose to distance himself from my siblings and me, it was incredibly painful. At first, forgiveness felt impossible. But through prayer and reflection, I realized that forgiveness wasn’t about excusing what happened but about releasing bitterness and trusting God to heal my heart.

Letting go of that burden opened the door to experiencing God’s peace and love in a deeper way. This mirrors the way God forgives us—freely, completely, and with love. Forgiveness doesn’t just release others; it frees us to reflect Christ’s love more fully.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Who do you need to forgive today? How can you show the same grace and love you’ve received from Christ?

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for loving me so deeply. Help me clothe myself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me. Let Your peace rule in my heart and guide my actions, so I reflect Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
