2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2

“Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But, whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.” 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2 (NIV)

Paul uses this beautiful imagery of a veil to show the change that happens when someone accepts Christ. It allows believers to experience the glory of God directly. Essentially, this new covenant in Christ brings a deeper understanding and a more personal relationship with God. This is different from the Old Testament in that there was very limited access to God’s presence. The Old Testament was based on the people following the law of Moses in order to be acceptable to God. Has God ever unveiled himself to you? Was it during a time of grief or trouble? How have you responded to that? Remember that this relationship with God that was at one time untouchable is now yours without ever doing anything.

Prayer:

Dear loving God, thank you for the day to day working of the Holy Spirit in my life. Shape me into the person that you would have me be and may my life be an open book to all who cross my path so that I may be a good and faithful witness to you. In your name we pray, Amen.
