Hebrews 11:1-2

"To have faith is to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval.” Hebrews 11:1-2 (GNT)

When in seminary I often heard it said, “God crashes into our darkness; we don’t break into God's light.” That quote seems to have stuck in my mind and I have had the opportunity to see that there is much truth in the quote…..

For many years now I have enjoyed drawing portraits. I enjoy drawing portraits of family members and then get some feedback from them. I have been about 80% satisfied with my accomplishments but hoped for betterment…..A few weeks ago our son, Marshall, introduced me to a proportional divider and showed me how to get better drawings. I was not executing this intervention. Getting the right proportion is always a big issue. The proportional divider puts the frosting on the cake. So I look back and have to say that it was faith that took me beyond 80% to 93%.

Another expression I often use that supports this text reads, “Life is tragedy filled with joy.” God is working in such a way that we can always be growing in faith. The best is yet to be.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What would you like to happen in your life that has not yet happened?
  • Do you enjoy paying close attention to how the faith process is working in other folks?

Prayer

Lord of Life, thank you for filling us with your goodness and making it possible to be lost in your love!
