Galatians 6:9

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

One thing that I know is “doing good” often makes you feel good. However, I also know that sometimes your tank is empty and it seems like you just cannot keep giving because you don’t have anything else to give. It is in those times we have to lean on others to help keep us going.

There is a class at Lincoln Public High Schools called Unified PE. This is a class that pairs up general education students and special education students. They come together to help each other accomplish tasks, compete in games and learn how to work together. Unified PE is a bucket filler for everyone that comes and observes. It is not possible to observe this class without walking away with a smile on your face!

This verse made me think of this class. The general education students give and do good every day. They do not get recognition, they do not get anything other than PE credit for taking this class, yet there is a waiting list to get into the class. Why? In this class, everyone is accepted. When someone is not having a good day, there is someone there to pick them up and not allow them to give up.

We could all learn a lot from our youth. Doing good can be as simple as giving what we have, paying attention to those around us that may need help, accepting everyone for who they are, and leaning on each other when we get weary. For you never know when your harvest will come!

Questions for Reflection:

  • How can you keep yourself from becoming weary?
  • Where can you serve in your faith community to benefit those around you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me see those around me in need. Give me strength and keep me from getting weary when doing good. When I do become weary, give me perseverance so that I may continue to help your Kingdom come. Amen
