John 1:16-18

Yes, the world was full of grace and truth, and from him we received one blessing after another. That is, the law was given to us through Moses, but the grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The only Son is the one who has shown us what God is like. He is himself God and is very close to the Father. John 1:16-18 (ERV)

It seems in the early history of the church, God attempted to communicate with us through the prophets in the old testament of our Bible. We received the Ten Commandments which if followed would have left us with a wonderful world to live in. The problem was that we as humans had to add and twist things with our human versions and things did not work out so well.

God then went to plan B and sent his beloved Son to show us what God was like and how to live a life filled with grace and truth. The New Testament reminds that grace is not something we earn but it is a gift from God. We seem to always make things difficult and Jesus explained simply for us. When asked what the greatest commandment was Jesus made it simple, “Love God and love your neighbor, oh and by the way everyone is your neighbor.” That is one I struggle with. How do I continually show love to the driver who cut me off in traffic or the person who treated me or a family member badly. I could name a lot of other neighbors I struggle with. THANK YOU LORD for introducing grace to me. I am working to be a better servant but in the meantime I do need your grace and please. Lord keep reminding all of us to love our neighbors and how we should show that love. Also thanks for sending your Son to show us grace even when on the cross.

Question for Reflection:

  • Jesus died on a cross, had spikes driven into his hands and feet and while hanging there suffering asked his Father to forgive those who did it to him. If Jesus forgave those and us for all we have done, has anyone ever done anything worse to you or me and should not be forgiven??? GRACE

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help us to remember that we are to love our neighbor. Then remind us how beautiful your creation will be if we live lives loving our neighbors. In Jesus, who was our great example name, we pray this prayer. Amen
