Colossians 3:1-4
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSVUE)
Being an adult can be hard. The day to day responsibilities and expectations in our lives can feel like a grind, and trying to find a balance between our personal life and work life is a constant challenge for many. Each can bring issues beyond our own control that we must be dealt with nonetheless. We are asked to give our time and energy to fulfill different responsibilities for different reasons and sometimes those minutes are in conflict. How we handle these conflicts can have an impact on our physical and mental health. What can we do to bring that balance we so desire? How about being undistracted in our Faith!
These verses help to refocus us in times of uncertainty. The answer is always to turn, trust and allow your heart to listen to where Christ may lead. I’ve found over the years that my path toward a solution to any conflict lies in prayer. Over and over again I will have an open conversation with God and literally ask questions out loud in peaceful solitude. I’ve had these one way verbal sessions alone at home, while mowing the lawn, in my car after driving or sitting alone in my classroom at school. Just a few minutes to review, question, and reflect on the situation usually allows God to guide me to where I need to be. If you find yourself struggling to find a healthy balance in your day to day life, consider spending time each day and night turning to God in prayer. He walks with us, listens to us, and grants us his Love and promise of Eternal Life. For in Christ, all things are possible. Amen
Questions for Reflection:
- Who do you turn to when life is constantly challenging you?
- Are you undistracted in your Faith?
Prayer:
Dear God,
When life is feeling wonderful, we thank you. When life is feeling difficult, we turn to you. A life walking with you and following your teachings is the focused life we desire to lead. Amen
