Psalm 98

It’s May and hopefully by now we’re soaking in more sunshine, admiring the blooms, inhaling scents of fresh cut grass and burgers on the grill, and maybe planning summer trips to explore God’s creation. My family looks forward to watching new fluffy friends emerge this time of year, especially the goslings and ducklings behind our house. Many of you are watching children grow and wondering how another school year flew by. You might reminisce about their younger years and the absolute miracles that they are. No matter how hectic the days, hopefully we’re all taking time to appreciate the blessings around us. (Something I certainly need to work on. It’s so easy to rush through our days, isn’t it?)

Psalm 98 is a wonderful reminder of God’s goodness. It praises God for His work of salvation in several circles — first Israel, then all the earth, and finally all creation. I can’t help but smile when I read it. Even when our hearts are heavy and life seems unbearable, God deserves praise. He’s continually working on our behalf, most times in ways we can’t see or understand. So, talk to Him, soak in a sunset, recognize a loyal friend, hold loved ones close, breathe in the fresh air, and thank God for the many ways He shows us love.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Where have you seen God this week?
  • How have you praised Him?
  • Listen to “How Can You Not See God?” by Leanna Crawford. Does it shift your perspective?

Prayer

Dear God,
Praise be to You. May we never forget your grace and gifts. Help us find new ways each day to express our gratitude. Amen.
