Isaiah 62:1-5

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.  The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.  You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.  No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate.  But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.  As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you. Isaiah 62:1-5 (NIV)

Epiphany, a time when the Magi find their way to Jesus, to offer their gifts and honor His coming. I wonder if it was an epiphany to them to see his star and follow it to where He was. I wonder if they ever thought about the lands they were passing through. I wonder if they ever knew that God had care for the land and the places they were visiting.

I grew up on a farm. The land is important and revered for the wealth of goodness it can bring forth. The land could not bear the fruit without us putting in hard work and care for the land itself, and farmers could not survive without the land doing its best to fulfill that part of the bargain.

It reminds me that we need each other to be the body of Christ, to bring out the best in each other, and value the part that each person brings to the table. What a beautiful gift God has given us to live on this beautiful planet and interact with every person around us to enjoy and embrace the diversity He has created.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I look around me and realize that every part of the earth, every person, needs to be part of the tapestry to make the whole thing make sense?
  • How can I speak out when I need to on behalf of those who can't speak up for themselves?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for all the beauty and diversity around me. Forgive me for being quiet when I should speak up. Help me to be a voice for those who need help. Amen.
