Luke 24:12

But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened. Luke 24:12 (NRSV)

It’s the Monday after Easter. Back to the normal grind. The colored eggs have been found, the jelly beans and chocolate bunnies have been consumed and the fancy clothes have been put away. But, wait! Maybe Easter will linger a bit longer if we make a sandwich with the leftover ham in the fridge.

Or, maybe not. Let’s try this again. Let’s paint a different picture of the Monday after Easter. One that is created with a sense of amazement like Peter experienced when he discovered Jesus’ linen cloths in an empty tomb.

It’s the Monday after Easter. Our hearts are filled with hope, despite any earthly circumstances. We are amazed that God loves us so much that Jesus died for our sins. We are amazed that God gave us brains to ponder, bodies to sustain us and hearts to experience love and loss and everything in between. We are amazed by the flowers blooming and the birds chirping. We are even amazed by the mystery of faith when we don’t have all the answers.

You get the picture. When Easter lingers in a way that keeps our risen Christ in clear view, it’s no longer a mundane Monday. It’s a fresh new beginning. That’s pretty amazing.

Question For Reflection:

  • How will you fully live into this season of Easter without ceasing to be amazed?

Prayer

Loving God, Thank you for being the author of the most amazing story ever told, the Easter story. May we offer our lives as your illustrators who paint a glorious picture of the world you created, filled with hope, peace and love. Amen.
