Colossians 1:15-20

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him, all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Colossians 1:15-20 (NIV)

This passage is a reminder to us all that God is in charge of our lives. He is the creator and the leader of us all. When Paul states that Jesus is the head of the body (the church), he means that Jesus is in charge of our lives. Let’s paint a mental picture here: Imagine if you did not have your head. What would happen to your body? You cannot exist without your head; the head controls everything. Your body does what the head says. Your body is completely dependent on your head. So, Jesus is our head. We cannot exist without Him.

When you allow your head (Jesus) to be in control of your body and mind, then you can rest assured that He will guide you to where you are supposed to be. A few years ago, one of the biggest trinkets that became popular was a bracelet that simply said “WWJD?” What would the head (Jesus) want me (the body) to do? We do need to pause when making decisions and ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” Jesus is the supreme leader and wants what is best for us. Allow Jesus to take the wheel more in your life and see what a difference that makes.

Questions for Reflection:

  • When was the last time you asked WWJD? Has that worked for you to follow His lead?
  • How hard is it for you to relinquish control of your life and let Jesus take the wheel?

Prayer

Dear God, it is not always easy to allow someone to take complete control of our lives. But You are the supreme leader of all, and we need to follow more what our head is telling us to do. I love that You want only what is best for us. Keep guiding me even when I don’t always ask for guidance. You know best what we need. In Your name we pray, Amen.
