Ephesians 4:14-16
Then we will no longer be immature like little children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever the sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:14-16 (NLT)
As I studied this one important thing came to mind: As believers we are called to grow beyond spiritual infancy and become grounded in the truth.
A number of years back a friend of mine sent me some work that one of his students had done for an assignment of what he had learned during the semester. I thought his answer was a great lesson for us also and how to make our faith and churches grow. He said, “Life is not about determining goals --- life is about understanding these goals and realizing what must be done in order to achieve them. One can not say they want an “A” in class without knowing what must be done and without having meaningful and relevant motivations to do so. Understanding the past and why things happen are all well and good, but are useless unless one actively learns and uses those lessons to better oneself and/or others.”
What did I get from that? For us it is easy to say, “I am going to work with others so that our church is healthy, growing and full of love.” Now the question is, what is the goal for achieving this? What is the motivation to make it happen? What problems from the past have kept this from happening? What action must be taken to make this happen?
Now we are ready to be action takers rather than dreamers.
Questions for Reflection:
- What is something you would like to see done to make Southwood more healthy, growing and full of love?
- Are you a dreamer or an action taker?
Prayer:
Father, we ask you to help us to be action takers in making your church more healthy, growing and full of love. Please help us to grow in our love for You and love our neighbors. We pray this in Jesus name, Amen
