Year in the Bible Daily Reading:
Exodus 13-15; Psalm 114; Ephesians 3 Listen to Today's Reading
Ephesians 3
If you’re reading this on October 16, we’re (hopefully) just now landing in Rome, Italy, beginning a two-week Mediterranean cruise. One of our stops will be Ephesus, where we’ll retrace some of the footsteps of Paul. That makes today’s reading from Ephesians especially meaningful. While the letter has traditionally been attributed to Paul, scholars continue to discuss its authorship. What we do know is that it carries forward the message of Christ’s love and grace that was at the heart of Paul’s ministry.
In Ephesians 3, the writer prays that we might be “rooted and grounded in love” and come to know the vastness of Christ’s love - a love that is “beyond knowledge.”
I love that image of being rooted. As we travel, I’m sure there will be moments when we feel a little out of our comfort zone. But roots remind me that wherever we go, God’s love goes with us. We don’t have to have everything figured out. We simply trust that God’s grace holds us, wherever the journey takes us.
Maybe that’s part of the mystery of faith: God’s love is bigger than our ability to fully comprehend it. And perhaps that’s why I’m reluctant to put God in a box. There’s always more of God to discover. And isn’t that part of the beauty of our churchwide Bible study? There’s always more to explore, more to question, and more to discover together.
Questions for Reflection:
- Where do you need to feel more rooted in God’s love today?
Prayer:
Loving God, ground us in your grace and remind us that wherever our journey takes us, you are with us. Help us trust your love and share it with others. Amen.
