Sharing Life Beyond the Walls

26Apr

Did you know how easy it is to start a group at Southwood? Steven Carlson is a great person to ask. He had inquired about a bicycling group which is one of his passions. Southwood simply added it to their Group Finder page, sent an email to some folks and the group is up and running. Or, in this case, pedaling!

Steven answered a few questions (below) so that others might be inspired to start a group aligning with their own hobbies or interests. You never know what God will do through a community of like-minded people as new faith-filled friendships are formed. It’s “church” beyond the walls!

Why would someone want to join a group at Southwood based on common interests?

Having a relationship with Christ is more than just going to church, it’s living our lives with our father’s children. Small groups outside of a physical building is one of many ways to break bread with our family members. Participating in shared hobbies helps drive conversations and can provide healing for those in need.

Is creating a sense of community an important part of church?

Church is a collection of communities that gather together. So without connection within communities, a church may not thrive nor remain open. Producing strong communities makes church successful.

How easy is it to create a group at Southwood?

Starting a group doesn’t have to start at Southwood. Gathering a group of individuals who share a common passion can be as easy as talking to your neighbor. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to your neighbor, starting a group is as easy as speaking with your Southwood ministry partners.
