Throughout the month of November, you are invited to “Be A Light.” Throughout Southwood’s
annual stewardship campaign, we look forward to featuring members of the congregation who are finding ways to shine their light in our church, our community and around the world.
"Nothing can dim the light that shines from within."
- Maya Angelou
We are all born with an internal light that wants to shine. But how do you tap into that light? By
identifying his purpose and passion, Dale Niebuhr has been shining his light within our church
walls, across the Lincoln community, and around the world.
After joining Southwood in 2009, Dale was invited to participate in a number of service and
fellowship activities throughout the church. “I enjoy helping with a number of hunger ministries Southwood is involved in throughout Lincoln. I’ve also built friendships and appreciate the support gained through our Men’s Breakfast group.” One of the highlights of Dale’s involvement was a 2018 mission trip with his wife, Ellen, to Tanzania. “When visiting the Tanzanian village and church, we really enjoyed the enthusiasm of the people.”
Dale and Ellen have always been believers in proportional giving and actively participate in
Southwood’s stewardship campaigns. Regular giving helps set their priorities. Even in
retirement, they challenge themselves to do more to share what they have been given. They
then rely on Southwood to combine their giving with the commitments of others to make a
difference in people’s lives. As a Southwood volunteer, Dale has witnessed the impact of this
giving first-hand.
When asked to share his advice about giving, Dale encourages others to “Live within your
means and find enough balance in your work/family/personal time so that church service and faith development can be a priority.”
You can “Be A Light” for others by submitting your 2022 commitment card by November 24.
